How we rate
The board covers AI and automated tools used in schools, especially those that make decisions shaping a pupil's learning, such as their level, what they practise next or whether they have mastered something. We choose which tools to assess and add more over time. Each tool is assessed across five areas. These summaries describe the scope of the assessment. The full scoring instrument is proprietary to GenEd Labs.
Oversight & decisions
When the tool makes a decision about a pupil, can the teacher see it, question it and change it?
Adaptive transparency
When the tool changes the level, pace or next task, does it show what changed and why?
Fairness & inclusion
Has the vendor tested whether different groups of pupils get different outcomes, and acted on what it found?
Subject & teaching
Is the content accurate, pitched at the right level and based on sound teaching for the subject?
Evidence & improvement
Does the vendor publish evidence, correct problems properly and give families clear choices about how the tool is used?
